Led by the out-front tenor of Abraham Burton, The Freedom Art Quartet is a throwback to the old Blue Note days. I’m sure Miles is somewhere smiling when Omar Kabir riffs his trumpet with Doug Yates on Kimbunga or reaches for the sky on Love of Illusion. Jaribu Shahid‘s bass work is subtle and strong, and Douglas Yates adds some alto madness to three of the tracks, most notably the swinging In
The Thick of It. Drummer Lloyd Haber wrote all the tracks and co-produced this release with bassist Shahid. These young cats are putting down some good old fashioned free jazz and I LOVE it! This great new recording is available on the Freedom Art Records label.
